Best Yoga Teacher Insurance - Europe

Do yoga teachers need insurance in Europe?

Yes. Whether you teach in a studio, run retreats, or teach online, insurance protects you if a student is injured or claims your teaching caused them harm — and many venues, studios, and platforms won't let you teach without it. There are two types you'll almost always want: public liability, which covers you if a student is hurt during a class (a fall, an injury on your equipment), and professional indemnity, which covers claims that your advice, cues, or hands-on adjustments led to an injury. If you teach virtually, make sure your policy also includes worldwide online classes since many older policies don't. Cover has to be arranged in your country of residence, so below we've listed our preferred EU-wide partner alongside trusted providers in individual countries.

What does yoga teacher insurance cover?

A good yoga teacher insurance policy is built around a few core protections. Exactly what's included varies by provider and country, but here's what to look for:

  • Public liability — covers you if a student (or member of the public) is injured or their property is damaged during your class. This is the essential cover most studios and venues require.
  • Professional indemnity — protects you against claims that your instruction, sequencing, or hands-on adjustments caused a student harm.
  • Product liability — covers you if props or products you sell or supply (mats, blocks, oils) cause injury or a reaction.
  • Online & virtual classes — covers you when you teach over Zoom or any streaming platform. Confirm this is explicitly included, as many standard policies still assume in-person only.
  • Retreats & workshops — covers larger events, both at home and abroad; check whether international retreats need to be declared.
  • Worldwide vs. EU-only cover — some policies cover teaching only within your country or the EU, while others extend worldwide. If you travel to teach, choose accordingly.

When comparing quotes, check the level of cover (the maximum payout), whether online teaching is included, and the geographic limits — these three points are where policies differ most.
