Types of yoga

Merchant City Yoga opened in 2010 and is now run by Judi Farrell who started practicing yoga in 1998 after six months of work stress and sleepless nights. She fell in love with her practice and now teaches at the studio and is the Principal Teacher on the CYS Glasgow Teacher Training Programme.

The beautiful studio is located in the 9th oldest building in Glasgow, The Jacobean Corsetry Building, which boasts high ceilings and plenty of natural light.

Reach Your Goals

The Glaswegian studio likes to keep it real, taking their yoga seriously but still having a laugh too. Their mission is to build real relationships, connecting and inspiring their community and helping you feel content and satisfied. The studio's teachers are carefully chosen for their commitment to the practice and experience in guiding you through yours. The studio has fourteen teachers on its books, all of whom have lengthy experience teaching or a background in fitness and wellbeing.

A Part of the Community

As well as creating their own community within the studio’s walls, Merchant City Yoga likes to participate in the wider work around Glasgow and aligns themselves with two local charities, Yogability and Fareshare Glasgow, donating time and money, as well as taking the therapeutic benefits of yoga beyond their studio walls. The studio believes that yoga should be for everyone, no matter where they are in life.

Classes and Teacher training

While the studio is currently closed they are running around three live streamed classes per day, although the frequency and class types do vary so it’s best to check their schedule in advance. Mysore style Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow make up most of the timetable with occasional Hatha and Forrest inspired classes. The studio also offers some free on demand classes via their YouTube channel.

A single class drop in is £12 with concessions starting at £9, however they do offer monthly and flexi passes that help lower the cost. With all classes currently running online the schedule can change from day to day starting as early as 6am and generally finishing around 7pm.

Merchant City Yoga also offers teacher training. Their next 200 hour training starts in September of 2021 and prices begin at £2820. Those wishing to train will need to email Judi Farrell answering a few questions which can be found on the studio’s website. CYS is a Yoga Alliance accredited Registered Yoga School allowing graduate teachers to teach worldwide.
